DONNE BROWNSEY was appointed to the California Coastal Commission in 2017 and currently serves as the Chair. She retired in 2016 from a career in government affairs based in Sacramento, where she was senior vice president of Sacramento Advocates for 12 years. Prior to that, she ran her own firm, Government Solutions, for over a decade. Brownsey represented corporate and nonprofit interests, business associations, and labor unions. As an attorney, Brownsey represented legal, healthcare, resources, and business interests. Earlier in her career, she served the California Senate President pro tempore as chief legislative consultant.
THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION plans and regulates the use of land and water in the coastal zone. Development activities including construction, divisions of land, and projects that change the intensity of land use or public access to coastal waters generally require a coastal permit issued by the Coastal Commission or local government. The Commission is an independent, quasi-judicial state agency with twelve voting members. Four are appointed by the governor, four are appointed by the Senate Rules Committee, and four are appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly. Six of the voting commissioners are locally elected officials and six are appointed from the public at large. Three non-voting members represent the Resources Agency, the California State Transportation Agency, and the State Lands Commission.
Join Us! We will be reviewing legislative victories from this session, and hearing from Eric Eide, Managing Director at Alliance for Southern California Innovation.
ASCI are a non-profit organization who directly supports leaders and stakeholders to nurture and grow the SoCal innovation ecosystem. They do work in the health care space, and we will be hearing about innovations in health care finance.
