Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA)
President John McLaurin speaking at the CAAP hearing, Nov 2nd

Dear Friends,

Today, the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach adopted an updated version of the Clean Air Action Plan! After two years of working to update the original plan (adopted in 2006), the twin ports unanimously agreed to adopt the upgraded plan this afternoon.

Over the past month, BizFed and BizFed members submitted comment letters, testified at public hearings, spoke with port commissioners individually and met with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti’s staff and Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia himself.

Thanks to our collective efforts we were able to get one of our key asks into the plan!
The port commissioners agreed to add revised language to allow near-zero technologies and to keep the plan fuel neutral!

Though the ports did not directly add a competitiveness action plan and cost effectiveness study into the final document, we were assured by commissioners and staff it would be included during the implementation process. We were also promised by commissioners that a working group would be formed with businesses at the table to be sure the plan is implemented fairly and accurately.

We would like to thank the hard work of many of our members who helped lead the charge on this issue:

Thomas Jelenic and Michele Grubbs, Pacific Merchant Shipping Association
Gary Toebben and Kendal Asuncion, Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce
Dan Hoffman, South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce
Patty Senecal, Western States Petroleum Association
Pilar Hoyos, Watson Land Company
Ken Chawkins, Southern California Gas Company
Peter Hertzog, NAIOP
Elizabeth Warren, FuturePorts
Joseph Hower, Ramboll/Environ
Weston LaBar, Harbor Trucking Association
LaDonna DiCamillo, BNSF
Tim McOsker, San Pedro Chamber of Commerce

Thank you for all your hard work! We look forward to continuing to work with our members on this important piece of public policy to improve our ports while maintaining cleaner air for us all.
